Columbia River Coho!
It has been an incredible year for the Coho Salmon here in the Pacific Northwest. One of the biggest runs in history is happening right now! This year I have caught some in the ocean outside of Pacific City, and in the Columbia River near Astoria . In both cases we were trolling heavy gear using flashers, hooches and bait, and although this is a super effective way to fish, it is not as fun as casting for them.
This past week, I had the chance to run up the Columbia River near The Dalles to fish for them again. This time we were casting Blue Fox Vibrax Spinners, one of my favorite ways to catch these fish!
Blue Fox VIbrax Spinners in size 4 & 5 are staples for salmon in the Pacific NW and Alaska. The action of these spinners is simply irresistible to both Salmon and Steelhead. They come in a wide variety of colors are are available at almost all local retailers. Today any variation of pink seemed to be doing the job!
