A great getaway in the Columbia River Gorge
We had the chance to spend a night in Skamania lodge this past weekend and I wanted to write a quick review. This is a fantastic Lodge located in the Columbia River Gorge. The service, amenities and setting are all first class. There is lots do do on the property including golf, zip-lining and a full service spa. if you want to go off site, the Columbia River Gorge offers unlimited outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, wind surfing, white water rafting, skiing and much more.
Skamania Lodge is located in the Columbia River Gorge near the town of Stevenson. It is less than an hour from Portland and offers a true Cascade Lodge feel and beautiful views of the scenic Columbia River Gorge.
Here is a history of the lodge from the Skamania Lodge Website:
LODGE HISTORY
In 1986, Congress passed an act that created the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, designed to protect the natural, scenic and cultural resources of the gorge. The mission statement within the act called for a Washington State lodge and meeting center to be built – Skamania Lodge.
Located on 175 wooded acres overlooking the Columbia River Gorge and Cascade Mountains, construction began July 16, 1991. A true public-private partnership involving four primary parties, The Columbia River Gorge Commission, The USDA Forest Service, Skamania County and Grayco Resources, Inc., The Lodge opened its doors on February 26, 1993.
You can read more about the lodge HERE.
I sampled some of the Local Gorge Beers and we ate in both the Cascade Dining room and The River Rock Grill.
Relax in the outdoor hot tub or sit by one of the many outdoor fire pits and enjoy the natural surroundings.
We had a great time and came back home feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I highly recommend staying here if you looking for a great weekend getaway!
