SHADFEST 2021!
It only happens once a year and now is the time for Shadfest 2021. Millions of returning American Shad are migrating up the columbia River, creating a fishing opportunity for anybody and everybody that likes to fish!
This is how it is done at Shadfest!
This is a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to catch a lot of fish! Just grab your gear, head to Bonneville Dam and join the hundreds of other anglers there taking part in this epic event.
My nephew, James, had a great time at Shadfest!
All you need is a medium action rod, some lead and either shad darts or small spoons. I used a 9 9” Okuma Guide Select Pro Rod, loaded with Sufix 832 braid (40 pound neon green) and a 10lb Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon leader. Attach a 3way swivel to hang your lead from, or use an inline trolling sinker then run about a two foot leader down to your lure of choice. I always like using a sz 1 or "0" spoon, but shad darts work great too.
Mike "Shad King" Codino was on fire at Bonneville today!
Many people like to eat shad, or they makes great crab bait. Either way they are really fun to catch, and a great opportunity to get outdoors and have some fun!
